How May I Help You?

User Post

Hi Team,

I have around two years of experience with initial 11 months experience as Wealth Manager in ICICI Bank and I am currently working as onsite consultant from Nielsen India with one of their major FMCG Client. I am in Sales Effectiveness vertical of Nielsen which provide data and analytical consulting on sales and distribution. My work includes working closely with Analytic group and category managers of client to support them on Nielsen Data and Business planing(Market analysis, competitor analysis, New launch Business case etc.).

I am very happy with my current role and responsibilities and going good on learning curve. However I aspire(1-2 years down the line) to work with Business consulting firm as Management consultant.

-I need to know what set of qualities/skills/certifications(if any) are required to build my profile for the future role.

- Being from NON IIM/XL, how much it limit my chances of landing in good management consulting firm?

For a top-tier Management Consulting firms like MBB (McKinsey, BCG, Bain & Co). one needs sharp analytical skills, above-par communication skills and a consistently high academic record from top schools.

If you have an enginnering background an IIT, BITS Pilani, DCE/NSIT, etc. will have a high weightage and St.Stephen's, Presidency, Xavier's, SRCC, for non-engineering. Your MBA should be again from top B-schools like IIMs, XLRI, etc.

Having said that, you can also look at Management Consulting firms (e.g. Accenture Stratey, Inductis) and other boutique firms apart from the top-tier which may look at candidates with an academic background apart not from the schools mentioned above.
