I am a 3rd year mechanical engineering student from BITS Pilani. I want to know about the questions asked in the technical interview and the expectations of the interviewer for core mechanical companies?

Hi Sandesh,

Happy to see that you have started planning for your placements right in 3rd year.

A core mechanical engineering job could be in many industries, as they say in college - "Mech Engineers are needed almost everywhere and are always evergreen in terms of their demand". Be it automotive, design, product development, heavy industries etc. questions would be asked to understand basic concepts of Mech Engg and how much you can apply them in the real world.

Do your internship well and see where your academic concepts are being applied, ask a lot of questions and learn a lot. Your internship can be your biggest talking point in the interview and can help you bag your dream job!

Also, in the interview, be prepared to respond to questions like, "Why should we hire you?" (focus on skills required for the job and cite instances where you have demonstrated those skills), "strengths and weaknesses", "achievements", etc. Go through some of the threads in this forum to know more about interview questions.

Do let us know if you would more info. All the best for your prep!
